Twenty-three birders joined TAS Field Trip Coordinator Brian Rapoza for the TAS bird walk on 9/11/21 at Crandon Park on Key Biscayne. We first explored the gardens (the old zoo), where an American Crocodile was spotted in one of the ponds. In addition to the introduced Egyptian Geese, Indian Peafowl and Sandhill Crane, we also spotted a pair of resident Red-shouldered Hawks. We then walked the beach, where we found a white morph Reddish Egret (photo by Federico Acevedo) as well as a number of shorebirds, including Semipalmated Plover, Ruddy Turnstone, Sanderling, Least, Semipalmated and Spotted Sandpipers and Willet. Some participants also saw Piping Plovers and a Lesser Black-backed Gull. An eBird checklist for the walk was compiled by Luis Gonzalez.
