O Canada! TAS Walk at Matheson Hammock Park

Nearly fifty birders attended this morning’s TAS bird walk at Matheson Hammock Park. Due to the group’s large size, we split into two subgroups. One group, dubbed the “A Team,” was led by John Boyd, the walk’s primary leader, assisted by Nancy Freedman and Bill Boeringer. The other group, as expected called the “B Team,” was led by Brian Rapoza, assisted by Luis Gonzalez and TAS President Joe Barros. Each group made a circuit of both the east and west sides of the park, but in opposite directions. Both groups saw many of the same birds, but each group also saw a few birds not encountered by the other group. For example, the A Team spotted White-crowned Pigeons, a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron and a Brown Thrasher on their walk. Some of the birds found only by the B Team included Cooper’s Hawk, Yellow-throated Vireo, Worm-eating Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush, Yellow-throated Warbler and, saving the best for last, a stunning Canada Warbler! Thanks to Michele Louden for use of her photo of this beautiful bird. An eBird checklist for today’s walk was compiled by Luis Gonzalez.
