On Sunday, October 15, twenty birders joined TAS Field Trip Coordinator Brian Rapoza at Highland Oaks Park on Ives Dairy Road in northeast Miami-Dade for a very productive morning of birding. Among the 46 species tallied were fourteen different warblers: Black-and-white, Tennessee, Nashville, Cape May, Magnolia, Chestnut-sided, Black-throated Blue, Palm, Yellow-throated, Prairie and Black-throated Green Warblers, plus Common Yellowthroat, American Redstart and Northern Parula. Other migrants encountered included Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Belted Kingfisher, Peregrine Falcon, Eastern Phoebe, White-eyed and Red-eyed Vireos, Gray Catbird, Summer Tanager and Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Among the resident and introduced species seen were Egyptian Goose, Great Blue Heron, Osprey, Cooper’s Hawk, Downy Woodpecker and Spot-breasted Oriole.
