On Saturday, November 9, Andrea Diamond led her first TAS birding trip, at Kendale Lakes Park in West Kendall. Here is Andrea’s trip report:
“On Saturday, I enjoyed a morning of birding at Kendale Lakes Park with twenty-seven birders, including two who had never been on a TAS walk before. It was a beautiful sunny day; 80° with a slight breeze. We walked the whole park and then crossed the street to check the nearby lake. We ended the morning with a total of 39 species, including 10 warblers: Palm Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Yellow-throated Warbler, American Redstart, Prairie Warbler, Northern Parula, Cape May Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler and Tennessee Warbler.
Other highlights included an Eastern Phoebe, three Cooper's Hawks, Blue gray Gnatcatchers, Monk Parakeets and Downy Woodpeckers. We also watched Ruby- throated Hummingbirds fly in and out of the Hong Kong orchid trees in front of the school. In the lake, we found a Limpkin, Double-crested Cormorants, Anhinga, a Great Egret and more.”
A list of all species seen can be viewed at eBird Checklist - 9 Nov 2024 - Kendale Lakes Park - 39 species.
