On Sunday, September 20, thirty-six birders joined TAS Field Trip Coordinator Brian Rapoza for a morning of birding at Greynolds Park in North Miami Beach. We tallied 33 species during our exploration of the park; among the highlights were Chuck-will’s-widow, Yellow-crowned Night Heron, Cooper’s Hawk, Belted Kingfisher, Orange-winged Amazon, Yellow-throated and Red-eyed Vireo, Spot-breasted Oriole and ten warblers: Ovenbird, Louisiana and Northern Waterthrush, American Redstart, Northern Parula and Worm-eating, Black-and-white, Black-throated Blue, Yellow-throated and Prairie Warbler.
Those who wanted to spend more time birding drove to nearby Highland Oaks Park, where we found 31 species, including Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Tricolored Heron, House Finch, Bronzed and Brown-headed Cowbird and eight warblers, including three not seen at Greynolds Park: Common Yellowthroat, Cape May Warbler and Northern Yellow Warbler. We ended the morning with a combined total of 47 species, all of which are listed in this eBird trip report.
