Tropical Audubon members, friends and neighbors are invited to attend a presentation and workshop with The Spark Bird Project at our High Pines campus and historic headquarters. This ongoing participatory social-science initiative invites folks from all walks of life to share and celebrate the moments that sparked their passion for birds. By collecting and studying these stories, The Spark Bird Project helps community partners, including TAS, better understand how to include, inspire and sustain tomorrow’s generation of new birders.
This intimate event is limited to 35 guests, so RSVP ASAP. Participants will learn more about the project and the early insights emerging from the research, and swap spark bird stories. Whether your spark bird was a Northern Cardinal flitting in your garden, or a rare glimpse of a Swallow-tailed Kite soaring over the Everglades, your story contributes to a broader understanding of how birds connect us.
Jenn Lodi-Smith, Ph.D., the founder and director of The Spark Bird Project, will lead the workshop. A Professor of Psychology at Canisius University and scholar-in-residence with the Roger Tory Peterson Institute, Lodi-Smith been using mixed methods to longitudinally study identity development for more than 20 years — most recently in the context of the transformative power of spark bird experiences.
