Bird Day 2026

  • Tropical Audubon Society 5530 Sunset Dr Miami, FL, 33143 (map)

Calling budding birders and junior naturalists! South Florida youth and their parents are invited to attend our free annual Bird Day festival featuring an engaging afternoon of games, prizes, exploration and educational activities on our wooded Steinberg Nature Center grounds. Bird Day, to be held on Saturday, February 7, 11am-3pm, is the perfect venue for school ecology clubs, scout troops, families and young children seeking an outdoor adventure. Take part in owl pellet dissection, draw and journal about the nature that surrounds you, hone your binocular skills and connect with local conservation groups.

The mid-winter event also celebrates the annual migration of nearly 350 bird species that stop in South Florida to refuel and recharge on their return flight from non-breeding grounds in the Caribbean, South America and Mexico on their way to nesting habitats in North America.

Bird Day participants can also join TAS Field Trip Coordinator Brian Rapoza for a workshop on the 2026 Great Backyard Bird Count, a community science initiative that enables birdwatchers of all ages to count birds and help create a real-time snapshot of where birds are located, helping ornithologists study birds! Learn how your family can participate in the February 13-16 event! Brian will lead a birding trek through the trails that thread our Tropical Hardwood Hammock and Pine Rocklands habitats to tune up attendees' birding skills.

Additionally: Nature lovers can explore our trails on their own at their leisure. History buffs can tour the 1932 Doc Thomas House, which serves as TAS headquarters and is a designated Florida Heritage Site.
