If you’re excited for the magic of seeing elusive antpittas (that come to calling out their given names in exchange for juicy earthworms), soaking in thermal hot springs while watching iridescently-colored hummingbirds buzz by, spotting the endemic Buffy Helmetcrest (see photo above) feeding on Espletia flowers at 13,500 feet, visiting a bird-friendly coffee farm to sip decadent Colombian coffee, and birding in the cool mild montane forests of the Western and Central Colombian Andes … then this is the tour for you!
Journey through the Andean mountain regions and the Coffee Triangle of Colombia, beginning in Medellin and ending in Pereira. This tour will take you through diverse landscapes, from alpine treeless paramo to lush montane rainforests to beautiful hummingbird gardens. You’ll savor delicious Colombian cuisine, sample exotic tropical fruits, and experience the enchanted culture of Colombia. The timing of the tour in late summer offers a respite from the rainy season — this time of year is dry in the Andes with moderate, comfortable temperatures. Join TAS Board Member and Birding by Bus Tour Leader Eliana Ardila Kramer (bilingual and Colombian herself), along with TAS Field Trip Coordinator Brian Rapoza, for this epic 9-day birding and cultural experience in Colombia.
A detailed itinerary is here. For tour price or if you have questions about this tour, please contact Eliana Ardila Kramer by email or phone (786-374-5667). Limited to 10 participants.
