Join TAS Field Trip Coordinator Brian Rapoza and a local guide (arranged through Holbrook Travel) on an eleven-day birding tour in the highlands of Guatemala, beginning and ending in Guatemala City. The tour includes visits to Cerro Alux and Finca El Pilar, both located near the historic city of Antigua, Los Tarrales Natural Reserve, on the slopes of Volcan Atitlan, as well as reserves and archeological sites around Lake Atitlan, including Parque Mirador Rey Tepepul, Volcan San Pedro, San Andrés Semetabaj and Corazón del Bosque. Specialties of this area include Pink-headed Warbler, Slender Sheartail, Belted Flycatcher, Azure-rumped Tanager and many more. Participants willing to hike to the top of Volcan San Pedro will have a chance to see the mythical Horned Guan! A detailed itinerary is here.
Fee: $2,675 per person double occupancy, $275 single room supplement. Fee includes transportation, lodging, meals, guides and park fees listed in the itinerary. Not included is round-trip international airfare to Guatemala City.
