The downtown Miami skyline at night is quite an attraction, but the bright dome of artificial light spreads miles over ocean and land, makes clouds white at night, and disorients our resident and migratory birds and wildlife. Light pollution over Miami-Dade County and the Greater Everglades will get even worse unless we treat our night environment as worthy of protection and restoration in the same way we advocate for our bays, oceans, corals, wetlands, climate and the air we breathe.
As part of "Everglades Dark Sky Week," scheduled during International Dark Sky Week, TAS will host a discussion with the experts who are tackling this grave problem. The panel will discuss solutions for combatting light pollution, helping wildlife, protecting sensitive habitats, and supporting ecologically smart growth in Miami-Dade County and across the Greater Everglades, followed by a Q and A.
