All About Bird Banding Webinar — Connecting People, Birds & Science

  • Tropical Audubon Society 5530 Sunset Dr Miami, FL, 33143 (map)

What does bird-banding teach us? In this webinar we’ll explore the wonder of songbird migration in South Florida, the history of the Cape Florida Banding Station at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, and what scientists learn from the fascinating data gathered when briefly capturing a bird, gently attaching a leg band and releasing it.
Station co-founder and director Michelle Davis will talk about the basic banding process and the impressive array of neotropical migrant species that stop over at the southeastern tip of Key Biscayne during Spring and Fall to refuel as they migrate north or south along the Atlantic Flyway. A photo montage of birds recently banded at the station will help you hone your bird ID skills! Guest Moderator Brian Rapoza will field your questions.
